The Bona Spray Mop, for timber floors in NZ
A spray mop is one of the easiest ways to keep a timber floor clean without over-wetting it, and the Bona Spray Mop is a popular ready-to-go kit. Here is what is in it, why it suits timber, and how to get the best out of it.

The Bona Wood Floor Spray Mop Kit is an all-in-one setup: a flat mop with a refillable cleaner bottle, a washable microfibre pad and the cleaner. It mists a light amount ahead of the pad, so a timber floor is barely damp, not flooded.
What the Bona Spray Mop Kit is
The Bona Wood Floor Spray Mop Kit is an all-in-one setup: a flat mop with a refillable cleaner bottle built into the handle, a washable microfibre pad, and the cleaner to fill it. You pull the trigger to mist a fine amount of cleaner onto the floor, then wipe with the pad, so there is no bucket and no wringing.

Why a spray mop suits timber
The whole risk with cleaning timber is putting too much water on it. A spray mop controls that: it lays down a light mist ahead of the pad, so the floor is barely damp and dries quickly. That is exactly what an oiled or lacquered floor wants, day to day.
What to put in it
Use a pH-neutral wood-floor cleaner made for timber. Bona’s own cleaner is designed for the kit, and our own FirstFloor Wood Floor Cleaner Concentrate is a value option if you prefer to mix your own, it suits oiled and lacquered floors and goes a long way. Whatever you use, keep it neutral and made for wood, not a general household spray.

Looking after the mop
Wash the microfibre pad regularly so grit does not build up and scratch the floor, and keep a spare so you always have a clean one. Refill the bottle rather than replacing the mop, and store it with a clean pad on. Looked after, a spray mop lasts for years.
Common questions
Is the Bona Spray Mop good for wooden floors?
Yes. It controls how much water reaches the floor, which is the main thing a timber floor needs, and the microfibre pad lifts dirt without flooding the boards.
Can I put my own cleaner in it?
You can refill the bottle with a pH-neutral wood-floor cleaner. Bona's own cleaner is made for the kit, and our FirstFloor concentrate mixes up as a value alternative for timber floors.
How often do I wash the pad?
Regularly. A dirty pad drags grit across the floor, so wash it after a few uses and keep a spare clean one on hand.
Is a spray mop better than a bucket and mop?
For timber, usually yes, because it controls the water. A well-wrung flat mop in a bucket also works, the key either way is a barely-damp floor.
